2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame

Every year, some of the greatest heroes in the history of the National Football League are honored for their excellence of the game. On Saturday, August 6 in Canton, Ohio, eight men were enshrined as the 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. Greats such as Marvin Harrison, Tony Dungy, Kevin Greene, Orlando Pace, Eddie DeBartolo, Kenny Stabler, Dick Stanfel, and Bret Favre were beaming with pride as they gave their speeches.

During the enshrinement ceremony, I always get a little emotional when I hear the significant challenges these heroes had to face. Most often we see the glory of a champion or player, but don’t quite understand the hardship and sacrifices each member endured.

Various festivities are also held in Canton, Ohio during the weekend of the enshrinement to mark this momentous occasion. One highlight in particular that everyone looks forward to is the Hall of Fame Game which is held at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

Unfortunately, the 2016 exhibition game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Green Bay Packers was canceled because of poor field playing conditions. The Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium was undergoing renovations and the projection of the field readiness was a bit off. The last time a Hall of Fame Game cancellation occurred was on August 7, 2011 when the St. Louis Rams and Chicago Bears were forced to sit-out due to the infamous NFL lockout.

Not to overshadow the main purpose of the entire weekend, thankfully the 2016 class is nevertheless greatful to be a part of a historic moment in time. View photos from the ceremony below.
