I recently attended the estate sale of the late Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, and among all the items within reach, I was most drawn to his book collection. You can learn a great deal about a person by the books they choose to read. It came as no surprise that this Harvard Law graduate had a deep love for reading and a commitment to staying informed. I’m certain he was always seeking ways to better himself, his city, and those around him as individuals and as human beings.
Books have a way of finding me, whispering their stories, and asking to be shared with the world. I couldn’t resist adding a few to my personal library, and I’m looking forward to diving deeper into them when time allows.
In honor of a man I deeply admired and whose political career I followed closely, I’d like to share a selection of titles from Sylvester Turner’s personal library that were available at the sale. May these books inspire you on your journey and beyond.
