It never ceases to amaze me how frequently our personal data is thrown across the internet like a rag doll with no home. With the advancement of the World Wide Web at our fingertips, hackers will always be on their job to find new or old tricks to gain access to our daily lives. It’s invasive and quite sickening to say the least. Therefore Equifax is the latest credit bureau that was impacted by a security breach in September 2017, where 147 million Americans social security numbers, addresses, and other pertinent information was unsecured and open for availability to anyone.
Due to this unfortunate acknowledgment, the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has confirmed that Equifax has agreed to pay a settlement of at least $575+ million for U.S. consumers affected by this data breach headache. The Federal Court will make its approval decision on December 19, 2019 before any type of settlement payment is issued to consumers.
