Glitter In Your Ear: SXSW 2021 Music Festival Edition

Casually strolling into a music venue to catch an artist on stage is one of the treasures I miss by not attending SXSW in-person. The magic you feel from listening to live music in Austin, Texas, is never forgotten and considered a relaxing treat after a long day. As a music lover, it is valuable to discover new artists and share their gifts with the world via the Glitter&Gumbo platform. This week I flew outside of the country virtually to Australia and London. Oh, what a treasure I found. The backdrop scenery in Australia is breathtaking and therapeutic to watch via the comfort of our home. Since we can’t have this experience in a tent with food and drinks galore, Sounds Australia did a fabulous job setting the atmosphere for all to enjoy. Utilizing their backyards and a virtual BBQ by the host, for the auspicious occasion of SXSW Sounds Australia put on a blazing showcase highlighting a few of their artists. The following musicians Baker Boy, Sycco, Shannen James, and Kee’Ahn, put a little glitter in my ear and some pep in my step. Read below to learn more about the artists and check out their playlists.

Baker Boy

When Baker Boy popped up on my SXSW screen, my feet hit the ground, and I couldn’t stop dancing. The drummer and guitarist set it off and took this experience beyond and further into another atmosphere. And if you’re familiar with TikTok’s viral hits, Baker Boy’s single, “Move,” was all over the social media platform this summer, and it’s one of my favorites. Check out more Baker Boy music here.

Shannen James

Serendipity is the word that comes to mind after listening to the sounds of Shannen James performing live. Her artistry with the band and lyrics create an undeniably good ambiance. All I needed was a glass of wine or a cocktail to transport myself to Australia as I envisioned sitting front row at this virtual concert. Learn more about Shannen James and her music here.

Sycco

An unsuspecting voice captures you with smooth undertones and an R&B vibe as 19-year-old artist Sycco (Sash McLeod) sings aloud. Listen to Sycco’s music here.

Kee’ahn

Kee’ahn’s voice has glitter all over it and I discovered it’s a joy to behold. Listen to Kee’ahn’s music here.   Oh how I miss live music????. Clearly, a trip to Australia is in my future ?
