Hey y’all. This stay home, stay safe initiative has helped me pause and work on things I normally don’t get the opportunity to focus on when I’m required to attend a 9-to-5 environment. Spending more time with my child is most important, and even more special when we get to create dishes in the kitchen.
It is evident that my child has no idea his mother can really throw down in the kitchen when required. Surprisingly, I overheard his father admitting the truth of me being able to create some fabulous dishes.
Therefore the secret mission is to plant a seed or tradition of teaching my son how to cook with minimal ingredients when necessary. For years, society has taught us that women are the human beings that belong in the kitchen. Now more than ever, as a single mom, it is imperative for me to teach my son the opposite. At the end of the day, “Boy, you need to know how to cook!”
So I decided baking a cake from scratch is a great way to build our home cooking tradition. My desire was to create a buttermilk poundcake however, I forgot to purchase buttermilk from the store. So regular poundcake became the narrative.
A mixer is a key tool to have as well in the kitchen however I don’t recall where mine is located, or if I ever had one?. I normally like to mix by-hand. He was a little resistant to the process but enjoyed the experience overall. The finished product is kid tested and approved. Creating memories and moments during this pandemic is what keeps me smiling, despite the perilous times we’re living in.
