Glitter&Gumbo had the distinct pleasure of reviewing a thought provocative documentary titled “Home Sweet Home” created by Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated executive producer Ava DuVernay premiering Friday, October 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
The synopsis of each episode of “Home Sweet Home” follows two families who lead different backgrounds for a life-changing experience. These families will learn what it is like to walk a mile in another person’s shoes, challenging racial, religious, economic, geographic, gender and identity assumptions as they exchange homes for a week and experience the lives of those unlike them. At the end of each hour-long episode, the two families reunite to share their eye-opening experiences.
Although I can’t share too much about the premiere, I will say that the conversations of awareness and intuitive thinking and processing presented in this series is good for your soul. And the love of Gumbo shows us how one meal can help unite us all with a melting pot of goodness for your tummy and heart. Moreover, the content is inviting and welcoming for the everyday viewer.
Before viewing the show, audiences may initially ponder the familiarity of another reality show in which the wives swap families to shake up a household. What I thoroughly love about Ava DuVernay’s work is how she opens our eyes to view a diverse perspective that enlightens our minds and tips the iceberg of knowledge in our favor. The cinematography is always on-point and adds some spice to the story we see through a lens called life.
Overall, I encourage everyone to watch “Home Sweet Home” when it premieres Friday, October 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
