Kevin Hart: What Now? is in theaters across the country and it is a film to witness. Did you have a rough week? Do you need a good laugh? Laughter that will make your stomach muscles ache is indeed good exercise and I walked away from this movie rejuvenated.
The mere fact that Kevin is representing the future of comedy by showcasing his skills in a theatrical manner, and having it correlate with the stage is phenomenal to me. The creativity and set-up for the film is in my opinion a genius move.
What I love about this film is its ability to take us beyond an ordinary comedy show appearing on your screen. Kevin Hart opens up with a movie skit featuring Halle Berry that will grab you in the very beginning. From there you are taken on a journey as he reaches the stage of the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, where he entertains a sold-out crowd with his set of conversational/story-like jokes. At the very end, we are transported back to the movie skit to determine or foreshadow his next move.
One of my favorite punch lines is when Kevin Hart uses his black girl voice to say the word, “Really” as a sentiment for all women that don’t believe everything that comes out of her man’s mouth. If you’re an African-American woman that has ever used this word and tone, you will appreciate this humor.
I remember when the Original Kings of Comedy came out as a film in 2000 and four African-American men took the stage in Charlotte, North Carolina. Now we are in the year 2016 and Kevin Hart is standing on the stage alone, while using graphics and social media to get his point across to the audience. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come through technology.
Overall, I’m proud of Kevin Hart and his ability to ask himself, “What Now?” Life is all about introspection and how we can improve upon our accomplishments and reach further for a new dream or goal. This man is doing big things and I look forward to seeing more of his work in the future.
