Cirque du Soleil is in Houston, Texas to premiere their production titled KURIOS- CABINET OF CURIOSITIES. Opening Night is scheduled April 6, 2017 at the Sam Houston Race Park and the show will run until May 21st. GlitterandGumbo.com went behind-the-scenes to get a sneak peek of how a performance of this magnitude is brought to life. Upon arrival at the blue/yellow tent venue, performers Vitali Tomanov and Marat Dashempilov were practicing for their segment in a special training area.
I spoke with Vitali Tomanov one-on-one and he shared how he began his journey into the performance realm. He stated, “It’s because of my dad. He trained us to do this. I come from a big family; like a circus family. I have my brother and sisters that are all performers.” Vitali’s father came from Russia to the United States in 1993 and provided a platform of curiosity for his family to soar.
Speaking of family, the original cast member that created and worked with Vitali during his KURIOS performance is none other than his brother. “My brother got hurt and he will be out for almost a year. Luckily we were able to find a replacement and his name is Marat. We’ve been working together for three months. My brother will be back in another show.”
While observing Vitali’s chiseled chest on stage during rehearsal, I was intrigued to find out how he stays in shape. He explained that training 1-2 hours a day and eating whatever he wants keeps him strong.
In closing, I wanted to know one thing that people will walk way with after watching this production. “They’re going to be smiling, there’s lots of energy, it’s kid friendly, and kids love it. My kids love it!” Overall he states that everyone will come out happy.
With the words, “Enter here to exit reality” marked at the tent entrance, KURIOS- CABINET OF CURIOSITIES plans on delivering a fun and enchanting fantasy world for the whole family to enjoy.
