Soul Glitter: January 2021 Music Edition

It’s time for another edition of Soul Glitter featuring music that has captured my ears and heart. Check out these amazing tracks below and let your Soul Glow!

Jazmine Sullivan HEAUX TALES Album

After a five-year hiatus from the music scene, Jazmine Sullivan returns with her phenomenal vocals for an album, HEAUX TALES, that will only be understood by those who get the underlining message. For the men who feel this album is just about hoes and how they live, you have no clue about the tumultuous journey women must face to be secure in their sexuality and learn from their experiences. Get into this Tiny Desk NPR Music Concert featuring songs from the album and an oldie but goodie too.

Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and Tank & the Bangas – “Colors Change”

Presented with support from the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation and filmed in New Orleans’ historic Orpheum Theater, Tarriona “Tank” Ball and the Bangas perform “Colors Change” with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. To view the full on-demand virtual concert performance featuring renditions of numerous band favorites, including tracks off their acclaimed album, Green Balloon, as well as their latest EP Friend Goals visit LPO Music for more information.

Joy Oladokun “Wish You the Best” featuring Jensen McRae

The new release “Wish You The Best” is just the latest in a series of significant milestones for Oladokun, who was selected as a member of the inaugural #YouTubeBlack Voices Class of 2021—a new global program created to help amplify black artists and creators across the platform. At the age of 10-years-old, Joy was inspired to learn the guitar after viewing a Tracy Chapman video. Therefore it is only befitting to hear Joy’s spirit resemble the greats that have cleared the path for her amazing musical journey.

Stokley “Cascade” ft. R&B Songstress The Bonfyre

GRAMMY nominated singer, songwriter, and producer Stokley released his new single Cascade ft. R&B songstress The Bonfyre.  As one of my favorite soul singers since his days with former group Mint Condition, Stokley’s voice will forever be a classic. Cascade is produced by Stokley and written by the hit writing duo/artists Shakespeare!

JJ Hairston “You’re Gonna Live”

Gospel artist JJ Hairston released his 11th album, Not Holding Back and the 12-track ensemble seeks to provide hope, healing and inspiration for all post the Pandemic of COVID-19. The single “You’re Gonna Live” has taken on a TikTok challenge of its own, as TikTokers use the song to celebrate being a witness to see the inauguration of America’s first woman/Black/South Asian Vice President Kamala Harris.

Fred Jerkins (Feat. Lowell Pye) “Patiently Praising”

The autobiographical anthem by Fred Jerkins featuring Stellar Award-winning vocalist Lowell Pye, “Patiently Praising,” reached #1 on Billboard Gospel’s Indicator Chart on March 28, 2020. “Patiently Praising” is lifted from the chart-topping album, A Project of Healing, by GRAMMY® Winner Fred Jerkins. Detroit native Lowell Pye’s signature tenor vocals were first heard as a member of John P. Kee’s V.I.P. Choir when featured as the lead in Kee’s “Jesus Is Real. In 1996, he joined Stellar Award-winning group Men of Standard; the group is best known for hit singles, “In Your Will,” “Winter,” I Will,” and “Surrounded.” Therefore Lowell Pye brings the soothing, inspirational gospel that will anchor your heart with truth.
