As Super Bowl LI draws near in Houston, TX, GlitterandGumbo.com wanted to provide a list of our favorite food spots that you should visit while in town. Being that we are located near the Gulf of Mexico ( yummy seafood), we always represent the South (Southern cuisine), and Tex-Mex (A blend of Texas and Mexico cuisine) your taste buds will be thanking you for experiencing some of the best food Houston has to offer.
All of these suggestions are my own and I am not being paid for this post. As a native Houstonian, this is done out of pure love for good food found in my hometown. It is my pleasure to introduce to some and refresh the memories of others with these Glitter&Gumbo recommendations. Enjoy and be sure to let them know GlitterabdGumbo.com said, “Come on down!”
The Breakfast Klub
The Breakfast Club is famously known for their Chicken & Waffles dish and it is fantastic! Their homemade lemonade is so good that you’ll want to order several bottles to go as well. If the line is wrapped around the building when you arrive, don’t be frightened. The crowd moves pretty fast and you won’t be disappointed taking time out of your busy schedule for a good meal. This restaurant is located at 3711 Travis St. Houston, TX 77002. For more information or to view a menu visit thebreakfastklub.com or call 713-528-8561. Picture credit: Instagram amonet_ignant.

Turkey Leg Hut
The Turkey Leg Hut is a cool restaurant that specializes in the nontraditional turkey leg and offers a variety of toppings. Pictured above is the Alfredo Shrimp Stuffed Turkey Leg and it is unbelievable! I can’t remember the last time I had a turkey leg that was so tender it began to fall off the bone. The Mama’s Gumbo is also a favorite among guests and is only available on Thursdays and Fridays during the week. For more information visit http://www.turkeyleghut.com/ or call 713-426-1812.

Frenchy’s Chicken – 3919 Scott St.
Frenchy’s chicken is the truth and a staple in the Houston community. There are several locations around the city however, I am recommending that you visit the 3919 Scott St. Houston, TX 77021 address. Growing up, whenever we would visit my grandmother in Third Ward or attend the Wheeler Avenue church, we always made a stop at the Original Frenchy’s on Scott St. The chicken is seasoned to perfection and the collard greens are phenomenal. You can’t go wrong when you order the campus (wing) special with a pepper and a strawberry soda. You’ll thank me later. For more information visit http://www.frenchyschicken.com/ for details.
Pappasito’s Cantina
Houston Tex-Mex is represented quite well at Pappasito’s Cantina. The fajitas and tacos are darn good and their signature margaritas are beyond words. Being that it is conveniently located across the street from the NRG Stadium, you won’t need to travel far for good food and a sizzling atmosphere.
Crawfish & Noodles
It’s crawfish season and I encourage you to try these mud bugs with a Vietnamese twist. Located on 11360 Bellaire Blvd, Houston TX 77072 Crawfish and Noodles is known for offering Vietnamese and Cajun food that keeps their customers coming back for more. Most importantly, be sure to try their blue crab as well and you’ll be a happy camper.
Whataburger
Most of our out-of-town guests marvel at the sight of Whataburger. To some, it is just a fast food restaurant but to others, it is a hearty meal with a Texas taste you can’t deny. Family owned and operated since 1950 each and every Whataburger is made to order. Meaning, your Whataburger is made fresh and prepared when you place your order at the cash register. There are several locations around the city and one is located not too far from the NRG Stadium.
POParazzi’s Gourmet Popcorn
I love everything about POParazzi’s Gourmet Popcorn. They have so many wonderful flavors from sweet to spicy that will have you wanting more. The Wings & Ranch or Strawberry & Apple combo are my absolute favorites. The kool-aid flavored pickles are good too. There are 3 locations in Houston with one located down the street from the NRG Stadium on 8236 Kirby Drive Houston, TX 77054. For more information visit http://poparazzispopcorn.com/ for details.
