As an old school lover of hip-hop, while growing up I can remember countless times sneaking into my brother’s room to admire and listen to his records of Kool Moe Dee, Run DMC, Whodini, Fat Boys and many others. Somehow I became mesmerized by this unique artistry and therefore my appreciation for the music took on a whole new meaning.
One particular motivation of mine that never ceased was helping others realize that hip-hop is more than music. It is a culture with branches that are deeply rooted in the African American experience and first developed in The Bronx, a New York City borough.
A hip-hop legend that can certainly educate us further on his experiences is
The Bronx Hall of Fame resident, Swizz Beatz. In the video below, Swizz Beatz is joined by fellow multi-faceted hip-hop artist and New-Yorker A$AP Rocky, as they ride BMX’s together through the streets of New York and visiting several iconic locations including 1520 Sedgwick Ave, the birthplace of hip-hop.
Swizz Beatz is presenting the No Commission art fair in collaboration with BACARDI and The Dean Collection for The Bronx event. No Commission: Art Performs is a multi-day immersive event where art and music collide for showcases by day and night. Featuring musical performances, visual art galleries and immersive installations in the Bronx, No Commission: Art Performs celebrates the artist hustle, where it all began. 100% of the proceeds from the artwork purchased goes back to the artists. Love it!
