The 97th Oscars nominations have arrived, and despite not receiving significant praise at a previous award ceremony, Universal’s “WICKED” has garnered 10 Oscar nominations. The top film, soaring with the most nominations, is Netflix’s “Emilia Perez”, which leads with 13 nominations. A24’s “The Brutalist” tied with “WICKED” by receiving 10 overall nominations as well.
An underdog film that may not have received the same level of fanfare as other productions but still deserves recognition is Onion Pictures/Amazon MGM Studios’ “Nickel Boys”, which earned 2 nominations in the categories of Best Motion Picture of the Year and Adapted Screenplay.
The A24 film “Sing Sing” received 3 nominations, including Colman Domingo for Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Original Song “Like a Bird,” and Adapted Screenplay.
The Academy noted that the Animated Feature Film, Documentary Feature Film, and Best Picture categories have film titles with nominees yet to be determined. The remaining designated Oscar nominees will be announced by early February.
Active members of the Academy are eligible to vote for the winners in all 23 categories beginning Tuesday, February 11, through Tuesday, February 18.
The 97th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC, streamed live on Hulu and airs live in more than 200 territories worldwide.
