The Beauty Of Discovering Your Destiny

Happy New Year, Glitter & Gumbo readers! It is with much love and sincerity of heart that I pray numerous blessings will overtake your life in this new decade of 2020. Thank you for following us online via social media, our website, Red Carpets, and at the theater.

We look forward to providing more extensive coverage in the entertainment and sports realm in the years to come. As a petite media company, we take pride in offering content that will enhance, inspire, and entertain the masses.

One unique aspect of life that has always intrigued me is the path one must take in discovering your destiny. What does it look like, and how does it feel? How will you know you’ve found it? As a woman who believes we are all placed on this earth to accomplish something that is designed specifically for our lives, in the hopes of affecting change in others, this quest is often frustrating, to say the least.

Over four years ago, after suffering an influx of hopelessness at my 9-to-5 workplace, I had a significant epiphany about the woman I am today. Despite the darts that were thrown at me that day to discourage my faith, God sent a message to me through an email for a New York Times Haiku poetry contest. When I saw this opportunity of greatness wrapped up in a heaping bowl of creative thinking, all my hurt and disappointment slowly faded away. I stayed up until 3:00 a.m. writing an epic piece that would describe my feelings.

Yeah, I know, a Haiku shouldn’t take long to write, but if you have the opportunity to be featured on the New York Times website, it is a huge deal. Regardless of the outcome, I was happy being and thinking creatively at that moment. It was then that I realized my passion is being creative. It brings me joy to take one man’s trash and turn it into treasure. And yes, my Haiku was selected and featured on The New York Times, which confirmed my message from God.

Although I am aware of my passion, the path towards my destiny and how it will all come together is now the fun part. The magic is in the discovery. Knowing that God has a plan for you and all that is needed is the power to work your gift; the only way you know how authentically. Hence Glitter & Gumbo developed as another creative outlet for me to express my thought and opinions as an everyday woman. Also, the fact that I have a Journalism/Advertising background helps it all work together for me beautifully.

Over the holiday break, I was lead to watch the Netflix series ‘Chef’s Table’ Season 6, and I came across a fascinating individual by the name of Mashama Bailey. This woman’s story moved me to no end. Once again, as a lover of food, glitter, and passion discovery, Mashama’s journey is an excellent testament that you will eventually end up where you need to be if you move your feet.

Chef’s Table Season 6 Mashama Bailey

Executive Chef & Partner of The Grey, Mashama Bailey brings a unique twist of love to the Southern Food culture in Savannah, Georgia. Watching Mashama detail the ups and downs of her life as she discovered her calling to a chef’s freedom gave me chills. At times we get angry over the negative things that occur in our lives without realizing it can work for us as fuel in the future.

Without giving away to many details, I employ you to watch Mashama’s Chef’s Table Season 6 documentary and the remarkable men and women that will follow after that. They all have a fantastic story to tell of how it was challenging to overcome the fear of being complacent. When passion and purpose combine, at times, it will not make any sense, but if you follow it, the adventure is worthwhile. Hopefully, their journey will encourage you to look within and know that you, too, can walk towards your destiny.
