This is truly a historic moment in time for our country, due to the fact that the efforts to build this museum began more than 100 years ago. Many people have come and gone and did not have the opportunity to see this dream come true. That is why I consider it a blessing to be living in a day and time when the African-American culture and race as a whole can be archived for the world to behold.<\/p>\n
Watching the dedication ceremony on television was quite moving. Highlights from the dedication I enjoyed were listening to Rev. Calvin O. Butts III, Pastor of Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York City, give his preacher sentiments speech and then transition into a dignitary refined with purpose speech. Basically, he gave us a two-in-one rhetoric and I loved it. Patti Labelle, legenday singer, took us home with a rendition of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.” Patti also gave us a drop the mic experience when she mentioned Hillary Clinton’s name at the end and walked away like a boss! And finally, I was moved to hear President Barack Obama express through words the true meaning of this moment and how it correlates with the turbulence in our country today.<\/p>\n
I too, rejoice in the fact that I can take my son to visit the NMAAHC in Washington D.C. as well. It will be refreshing to share our history up close and personal in way that will help him truly comprehend our journey thus far.
