Hosted by Trevor Noah, CBS and the Recording Academy presented the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards live on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on CBS Television Network, and it was an unforgettable night with fiery performances and historic wins. Houston’s own Megan Thee Stallion represented the Bayou City on the big stage and solidified her star status in the hemisphere. Beyonce walked away with the title to have the most GRAMMYs in the Recording Academy’s history, with a record of 28 GRAMMYs.

The 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards® performers brought their unique sound and stage designs to impress the television audience and showcase to their music colleagues that it was indeed a special night celebrating the music that unites us all. The performers for the evening included Bad Bunny, Black Pumas, Cardi B, BTS, Brandi Carlile, DaBaby, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Mickey Guyton, HAIM, Brittany Howard, Miranda Lambert, Lil Baby, Dua Lipa, Chris Martin, John Mayer, Megan Thee Stallion, Maren Morris, Post Malone, Roddy Ricch, Harry Styles, and Taylor Swift.
Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak gave the performance of the night with “Leave The Door Open,” and I’m ready to leave my bank account open to purchase a ticket for a tour I hope they will have in the future. Mickey Guyton looked beautiful as she sang from the heart her spirit-filled single, “Black Like Me.” Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion made me giggle and laugh hysterically when the W.A.P. showed up and showed out on C.B.S. I remember when my generation could never do this on national television, so times have changed.
Music’s Biggest Night® also paid tribute to the independent venues, which the pandemic has dramatically impacted. From bartenders to box office managers, those who work day-to-day at the Troubadour (Los Angeles), The Hotel Café (Los Angeles), the Apollo Theater (New York City), and The Station Inn (Nashville) presented various categories throughout the night. It was fascinating to learn how James Brown played a pivotal role in Billy Mitchell’s career as, historian and tour guide for the Apollo Theater in Harlem.
