The 93rd Oscars® Nominations Revealed

Chopra Jonas and Jonas announced the nominees for the 93rd Oscars® in 23 categories at 5:19 a.m. PT. this morning. The late actor Chadwick Boseman received a posthumous nomination for performance by an actor in a leading role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Chadwick’s co-star in the film, Viola Davis, also received a nomination for performance by an actress in a leading role for her portrayal of the legendary Blues singer Ma Rainey.

Singer Andra Day also received her first Oscars nomination for her role as Billie Holliday in “The United States vs. Billie Holliday,” and the film “Judas and the Black Messiah” receives six nominations overall, including a nod in the Best Picture category. Actors Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield both received nominations for actors in a supporting role.

Best Animated Feature Film of the Year two notables Walt Disney’s “Soul” and Apple/GKIDS “Wolfwalkers” received nominations for their work in the animation field. View the full list of nominees below.

The 93rd Oscars will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at Union Station Los Angeles and the Dolby® Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. The Oscars also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide. Congratulations to all of the nominees.

Academy members from each of the 17 branches vote to determine the nominees in their respective categories – actors nominate actors, film editors nominate film editors, etc. In the Animated Feature Film and International Feature Film categories, nominees are selected by a vote of multi-branch screening committees. All voting members are eligible to select the Best Picture nominees.

Active members of the Academy are eligible to vote for the winners in all 23 categories beginning Thursday, April 15, through Tuesday, April 20.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed the campaign art for the 93rd Oscars®. The Academy invited seven international artists to create custom Oscar® statuette art inspired by the question, “What do movies mean to you?”  The artists are Temi Coker, Petra Eriksson, Magnus Voll Mathiassen, Michelle Robinson, Karan Singh, Victoria Villasana and Shawna X.

Featured Artists

The featured photo highlights the work of multidisciplinary artist Temi Coker who was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, and now resides in Dallas, Texas, with his wife.  He is an alumnus of the Adobe Creative Residency and currently co-runs his own creative studio.  His mix of vibrant colors and textures comes from his upbringing in Nigeria as well as his love for the African Diaspora.  His style focuses on evoking emotion through color, patterns and storytelling. Self-taught African and Korean American artist Michelle Robinson was born an identical twin in Seoul, Korea, and now lives in Los Angeles.  Robinson’s work explores bold contrasts, color palettes, patterns and the female form.  Natural or unfamiliar, loud or subtle, she creates whimsical interpretations of the human condition using the movement of the female body as her wholly intriguing and revealing device.  The artwork demands a momentous conversation between itself and the viewer concerning self-empowerment, identity, community, sexuality, freedom and the human condition. Instagram: @mister_michelle
