The new Apple original limited series “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” starring Oscar-nominated Samuel L. Jackson is a brilliant piece of work to behold. Premiering March 11, 2022, on AppleTV+, viewers will indeed experience as Choreographer, Director, and Producer Debbie Allen states, “We get to see a vulnerable side of Samuel L. Jackson,” and this spark of acting ingenuity is refreshing.

The storyline is an adaptation of Walter Mosely’s novel of the same name. Ptolemy Grey is a 91-year-old man who has dementia and is forgotten by his family, friends, and even himself. Ptolemy experiences a rare opportunity to regain his memories to solve the mystery of his nephew’s death and right the wrongs of his past. The six-episode series also features BAFTA Award nominee Dominique Fishback (“Judas and the Black Messiah”), Cynthia Kaye McWilliams (“Coyote,” “Real Husbands of Hollywood”), Damon Gupton (“Black Lightning,” “Bates Motel”), Marsha Stephanie Blake (“I Am Your Woman,” “When They See Us”), Walton Goggins (“Justified,” “The Unicorn”), and Omar Miller (“The Unicorn,” “Ballers”).

After reviewing the first two episodes of the series, I immediately became glued to the relationship between Ptolemy and his nephew Reggie. The scene in which Reggie attempts to seek out his uncle Ptolemy for advice is heartbreaking and provides a glimpse of how family members and friends may feel when they try to rekindle the warmth of guidance once received from someone who now suffers from the plight of dementia. And, of course, I cried when Samuel L. Jackson broke down in unimaginable tears during the same episode.

One of my favorite actresses to watch, Dominique Fishback, will truly invigorate her role as the new caretaker for Ptolemy Grey as she takes hold of the journey Ptolemy will cast upon her.

“The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” is a series that will have you wanting more. Best-selling author and writer Walter Mosely serve as an Executive Producer of the series, along with executive producer Samuel L. Jackson, who states, “We took our time in the production of this series because we wanted to get it right.”
