BABY DRIVER MOVIE REVIEW

If you had a music soundtrack to tell the story of your life, what would it be? Edgar Wright, writer and director of the “Baby Driver” film, developed a music concept to tell the story of a young man’s plight into a destructive world. Using the words of Stevie Wonder’s 1976 album I call this perspective, “Songs in the key of a criminal life.” And when you find yourself singing along to some classic hits, you know this movie is about to take you on a fantastic ride.

From the very beginning of the film we are impacted with a car karaoke performance by the main character “Baby,” portrayed by actor Ansel Elgort. It is then that we all begin to wonder, “Who is this kid?” The way he maneuvers from being caught by the police in the intro is fascinating and intriguing at the same time.

Layer by layer, piece by piece songs are revealed to display the unique aspects of “Baby” that cause me to cheer for him as an unsuspecting protagonist. Watching him help his elderly foster parent, and the love that is shown via sign language provides a different dynamic to this film that I enjoy.

Of course the other supporting actors don’t disappoint you with their high powered antics. Jamie Fox is absolutely insane and I love it. When he ends up dying in the film I began to laugh hysterically. The poor woman sitting next to me gasped in amazement. In my opinion, he got what he deserved so I found it comical.

Kevin Spacey represents the cool and dapper business man with an undercover lifestyle. He is best known as the leader of the operation who is not willing to get his hands dirty. Actors Jonn Hamm, Eiza González and Lily James also add a spark to make this film buzz with clever excitement.

I love a movie that provides a good storyline and leaves you wanting more. As I walked out of the theater filled with energy and smiling, it was then that I realized how much fun was had. If you enjoy action, adventure, and edge of your seat suspense this is the movie you don’t want to miss.
