The Chicago Teachers Union is on strike to demand a safe reopening plan and improved remote learning for students and teachers. Chicago Teacher Dwayne Reed requested the right to work remotely from home to safeguard his eight-month pregnant wife from COVID-19. The school district denied Dwayne’s request.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot explained that teachers who refuse to show up on campus would receive a lock-out via the remote learning digital platform, disabling students and teachers to work together as an online class structure. Although Dwayne refuses to put his family’s health in danger, he finds himself working remotely outside of his school building in the snow to comply with the Chicago Public School rules.
