In the church setting, we like to say a singer “Went In” when they sing from a place that is no longer on the earth realm. Meaning, the singer took us on a journey we didn’t expect, and our souls are rising high to glory! On February 9, 2020, at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, CA, Oscar-nominated actress Cynthia Erivo put it all on the Academy Awards stage and left the audience speechless. A standing ovation is what she received, and that is what she deserved and more.

Nominated for Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original song) at the 92nd Oscars, “Stand Up” is the lead song from the film HARRIET with music and lyrics by Joshua Brian Campbell and Cynthia Erivo. Although Cynthia Erivo did not win this category or the performance by an actress in a leading role (Harriet), she won that stage. Also, by having an Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award under her wings, it is only a matter of time before she wins an Oscar, and the prestigious EGOT designation is by her name.

In case you missed Cynthia Erivo’s fabulous performance last night, Focus Features provided a video recap below for all to embrace. Also, In honor of Black History Month, Regal and Focus Features are offering a free screening of HARRIET on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at select theaters. Visit the Regal website here for more information.
