The United States Coast Guard recently provided an update stating there are six construction workers presumably dead after the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland.
Divers have transitioned from search and rescue to recovery operations. When the weather and conditions are safe, they will reenter the water to work on recovering the missing individuals. However, due to the temperature and bridge structures present in the water, safety practices are needed to continue this recovery effort.
An early report states that eight individuals fell off the bridge into the water, and the Coast Guard successfully recovered two workers. One of the two workers refused medical treatment and chose to go home and be with family.
The Maryland Transportation Authority Police Department has stated they were fortunate to shut down traffic onto the bridge to prevent any vehicles from entering the water the bridge. The Coast Guard can only confirm this once recovery operations are complete.
Glitter&Gumbo sends our hearts and prayers to the families who lost their loved ones in this horrific tragedy.
