Let’s be clear; HBO received a gold mine when it was granted access to the Houston Texans organization. Hard Knocks is an NFL inspired television show on HBO that highlights the trials, tribulations, and victories of playing in the football league. This series first appeared in 2001 and has featured 7 specific teams (2 appearing twice on the show) thus far, with the Houston Texans being the 8th team selected for this grand debut.

At times, I consider myself a private person when it comes to my behind the scenes details. Therefore it is only natural for some teams to be skeptical of showing the world what it’s like within their organization. I applaud the Houston Texans for opening up their pride and joy, but I admonish them to remember that some things are better left unseen or untold publicly. You don’t want to give away all of your secrets do you?

One thing I love about this show is the opportunity to see the underdogs rise from defeat or fall to a dream that is deferred. We get to see the lives of players that rarely receive any attention unless a camera or media is in their face, and sometimes for the wrong reasons. It’s refreshing to celebrate the pure love of the game and what it takes to get there.

Even if you’re not a football fan, this is still a good show to watch. This series has won numerous Emmy awards for their work and storytelling. The premiere is scheduled for August 11th 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT. With only 5 episodes, I’m sure we’ll be talking about this season for years to come. Check it out!
