Houston Resident Israel Rodriguez Receives Overwhelming Support Amid Housing Eviction

CNN correspondent Kyung Lah recently reported a story on housing evictions during a pandemic in the Houston, TX area. Kyung Lah followed Harris County Precinct One Constable Deputy Bennie Gant, as he proceeded to enforce eight evictions for the day.

As the deputy knocked on Israel Rodriguez and his family’s apartment door, two young children emerged and intensified the severity of a judge’s order to kick this family out on the street with nowhere to go.

Also in the broadcast, an elderly woman who speaks Vietnamese is scheduled to receive help via social services, after a short 24-hour reprieve from being evicted in the hot Houston weather.

CNN reports that Israel transplanted his family to Houston from New Orleans to get away from the violence that quickly engulfed him. With no transportation or past due rent to cover this turmoil, Israel held on to a $361 paycheck as his only hope.

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson became aware of this heartbreaking story and reached out to Israel Rodriguez to offer his support.
