Entertainment In the Pot

My Synopsis of Beyonce’s Lemonade

So, in the world of celebrity music, it’s easy to assume an artist is depicting their life story through song. Sometimes the words of an artist can be fictionalized to bring forth emotion or sentiment from the listener. But after watching Lemonade, I realized that if Sean Carter (Jay Z ) cheated on Beyonce’, we received a true glimpse into the roller coaster of emotions she must have felt. ???

Lemonade

Okay, parts of this premiere seemed quite dark at times, but that’s the place you can enter into if you allow yourself to go there. It’s easy to drift into a world of chaos and confusion when you’ve been hurt by someone you love. Here is a list of the phases/scenes  Beyonce’ encountered in Lemonade and some of my favorite quotes.

Lemonade Roller Coaster

Intuition– “You remind me of my father a magician, able to be in two places at once.”

We know when something is not right, yet we try to second guess ourselves. Why do we do this? Beyonce is hinting that she experienced this feeling before and it’s all too familiar.

Denial

I don’t want to believe that you’re playing me, so I will give you the benefit of a doubt. Walking down the block busting car windows is every scorned woman’s dream, for a man in question. Watching Beyonce’ drive that monster truck was an epic visual too. ?

Anger: “Why can’t you see me? Everyone else can.”

During the anger scenes, Beyonce described this emotion perfectly. She displays the “God is good and I am not” phrase to say that she is prone to acting out of character when she is crossed. So don’t judge. It happens to the best of us. I’m a living witness.

Apathy: “Ashes to ashes, dust to side chicks.”

Yes! Haven’t you been there? You don’t care or feel sorry for the person that cheated on you. Deuces up, I’m out. You do you and I will do me. I’m going to meet my girls in the parking garage, dress up in my hood clothes and tell you how I really feel. Yessss.??

Loss: “Grinding Monday to Friday, working Friday to Sunday.”

Beyonce’ standing in front of the burning house is a poignant reminder of the lowest form of betrayal. Behind closed doors we bare the pain of struggling with distraught emotions. But on the outside, we try to maintain our flawless composure as we help provide for our family.

Accountability: “Am I talking about your father or your husband?”

Who is responsible for the pattern that has entered into our lives? So many times we view our detriment as being one sided, but there are layers and reasons to explain who we are and what we allow.

Reformation: “Why are you afraid of love? You think it’s not possible for someone like you.”

The rebuilding process begins for the broken relationship, but most importantly for herself . By choosing to stay, this confirms she believes their foundation is strong enough to endure betrayal. In our human minds it’s easy to walk away, but what if your true test is to stay? Granted it may not be God’s will for everyone to stay, but maybe it’s His will for her?

Forgiveness
Beyonce forgave her husband. Enough said. Watching Beyonce’ play the piano was riveting and profound. You can feel her raw emotions pulling you through the screen.

Resurrection: “When your back gets against the wall and the wall against your back, who ya call?” God is a present help in the time of trouble. When you have no where to turn, He is right there to pick you up and help you start all over again. Beyonce’ has risen from the grips of defeat and turmoil.

Hope: “Imma keep running, cuz a winner don’t quit on themselves.” No matter what you go through in life there is hope for a new beginning. A new start. Giving up on yourself would be reckless when you’re destined to win. Preach Beyonce’.

Redemption: “Nothing real can be threatened.” Beyonce’ credits her grandmother for the words of wisdom above. This statement is so true. I love it.

Overall this cinematic premiere reveals to me the evolution of Beyonce’. She is overcoming a lot to stand tall and continue along this journey. Beyonce’ bared her soul in a transparent manner to free her spirit. As a Virgo myself, I get it and I understand why it took so long for her to tell this story. Bravo Beyonce’. I’m looking forward to an encore when she visits her hometown of Houston, Texas.

If you missed the Lemonade premiere on HBO don’t fret, Tidal.com is streaming the visual album on their website. Enjoy.
