Sentebale Co-Founder Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, hosted a few events this week in Florida to support Sentebale’s work with children and young people affected by poverty, inequality, and HIV/AIDS in southern Africa.
A collaborative effort between Sentebale, innovative finance and philanthropy firm Lebec, and a group of U.S.-based philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and impact investors, highlighted the ‘Potential is Waiting’ panel discussion as a platform for sharing insights and solutions. The aim was to develop funding for the next generation in southern Africa, focusing on possibility and action. The discussion was followed by a seated dinner at Zaytinya of the José Andrés Group at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Miami, Florida on April 11, 2024.
The philanthropic festivities reached their peak the following day with the Royal Salute Polo Challenge, a significant fundraising event for Sentebale, at Grand Champions Polo Club on April 12, 2024 in Wellington, Florida. The Duke of Sussex and longtime Sentebale ambassador Nacho Figueras were active participants in the Royal Salute Polo Challenge. This annual Polo Cup, running since 2010, has been instrumental in raising over £11.4 million to support Sentebale’s mission.
About Sentebale
Sentebale was founded in 2006 by the Duke and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho as a response to the needs of children and young people in Lesotho. Sentebale, which expanded into Botswana in 2019, has long operated with young voices at its core, creating sustainable solutions co-created with those the organization serves. Now, the organization is exploring opportunities to partner with other operators to scale its core programs within Southern Africa, focused on health, wealth creation, climate resilience, and the next generation.
