St. Louis Rams Relocate to LA

Well, the time has finally come for an NFL team to make a decision unlike any other. With a vote of 30-2, the team owners almost unanimously voted to send the St. Louis Rams to Inglewood, California.

A new stadium will be built for the 2019 football season to solidify this opportunity. Until then, the Rams will move to the Los Angeles area before the 2016 training camp and prepare to play in a temporary location.

The San Diego Chargers also have the option to join the Rams in their new stadium, and they have less than a year to make a decision on this. If the Chargers decline the move, the Oakland Raiders will be next in line to relocate to LA if they so desire.

Your head is probably spinning from all of these scenarios, and we’re not even close to the “What if…”

As a former Houston Oilers fan, I know how it feels to have your city’s football team up and leave. Our drought occurred in 1997 and it was not a good feeling at all. Therefore my heart goes out to St. Louis as they transition to a life without an official NFL team. It sucks, but you learn to live on without a team.

My grandmother loved the Houston Oilers. After their departure she became a true Pittsburgh Steekers fan until the day she died. The Houston Texans appeared after her death, so she couldn’t celebrate the return of football to the city. So yeah, this news is kind of a big deal to a lot of people. Generations will end and start with this transition.

On the other hand, for 21 years Los Angeles endured watching other cities revel in a franchise. Now their time to rebuild a brand has come.

The timing of this vote is unique and quite awkward to me. With Super Bowl 50 coming upon us, I guess they couldn’t wait until after the big game to make this decision. Our chatter will now require us to multi task and wait for the next big announcement concerning San Diego and Oakland.

Stay tuned… I’m sure we will have more interesting news to discuss.
