Top Five BET Awards Epic Moments

If you didn’t watch the show, hopefully these references will encourage you to do so when it airs again on the BET Network. Although everyone did a great job, these are my top five moments from the 2016 BET Awards.

Jesse Williams

Jesse Williams: 2016 BET Humanitarian Award

Not only did Jesse take us to church, he gave us a dissertation on the enslavement of African Americans in the 21st Century. He broke it down in a way that he had us in a daze, listening to every single word as it was poetically spoken from his lips.

Jesse Williams helped us all realize he is more than just an actor. As a graduate of Temple University with a double major in African American Studies/Film and Media Arts, he schooled us like the high school students he taught in Philadelphia for six years. Wow! He said it’s time to wake up. Speechless.

Sheila E.

Sheila E. Prince Tribute

It’s as if Prince came down and gave his blessing during this tribute. The appearances of Jerome from the band, Morris Day and The Time and Prince’s ex-wife and dancer Mayte Garcia made my night. Absolutely beautiful renditions of his music.

Beyonce Kendrick

Beyonce’ & Kendrick Lamar “Freedom”

What else can I say? Two powerful forces in music came together to spray us with their “We Got This” confidence juice. The flames during the performance matched the heat they gave. Blazing set. This performance reminded me of why I really love this song and how it pumps me up. Guess which song will be in heavy rotation tomorrow?

J Hud

Jennifer Hudson: Prince Tribute “Purple Rain”

Jennifer Hudson’s voice is phenomenal to say the least. Every time she opens her mouth, her voice demands attention. I felt every word she sang, including her effortless walk off the stage down to the very last note. Bravo Jennifer, Bravo.

Bilal: Prince Tribute

I am a fan of Bilal and his music. His artistry is unique and true to who he is as a person. Watching him transform into Prince as he sang one of my favorite songs, “The Beautiful Ones” was epic. When he opened his shirt, got down on his knees, crawled across the stage and fell on his back, I screamed ?. Loved it!!!!
