THE 2017 TOYOTA SWAC FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME & TOYOTA GREEN INITIATIVE

On December 2, 2017 the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas will mark the significance of a defining moment in the historically black college university football realm. Grambling State University will battle against Alcorn State in what is known as the “Final Judgement” for the closing edition of the SWAC Championship game era. The Saturday kickoff is set for 3:30 CT and the game can be viewed on ESPNU.

The SWAC champion will earn an invitation to play in the Celebration Bowl at the new Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta on December 16, 2017.

TV/Radio personalities Big Tigger and Traci Steele are the SWAC emcee hosts. Grammy Nominated singer/actress Tamar Davis will perform “God Bless America” and singer/actor Rotimi from the hit Starz series POWER will sing the national anthem. Maze featuring Frankie Beverly will perform in a post-game concert following immediately after the championship game.

On Friday, December 1, 2017 from 9:30AM – 1:30PM SWAC fans are encouraged to support the Toyota Green Initiative, which promotes sustainability in African-American communities. Volunteers will work to revitalize the Blodgett Urban Gardens located at 3216 Blodgett St. Houston, Texas 77004. Participants will receive a complimentary T-shirt, lunch, and a certificate of completion for those who desire school credit.
