AMERICAN IDOL ALUMS USE CONCERT TO HELP HOUSTON HEAL

The aftermath of Hurricane Harvey still haunts Houstonians, neighboring cities, and counties as the process of recovery continues to restore livelihoods to normalcy. And despite the uphill battle that stands before many Harvey victims, music will forever be the defining force that can uplift and encourage a downtrodden spirit.

Two distinct voices in the American Idol generation are planning to lift spirits via song and donations to help Houston heal. On September 30 at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land, American Idol alums Danny Gokey & Mandisa are using their “Rise Out of The Dark Tour”, produced by KSBJ Special Events, as a platform to help those who were affected by Hurricane Harvey.

People are asked to bring general purpose gift cards valued at $20 or more to the concert on September 30. In exchange, donors will receive a “Texas Strong”t-shirt designed exclusively by Futureshirts. Until now, the t-shirt has only been worn by fellow Christian artist Natalie Grant during the “Together for Texas” Facebook Live Harvey benefit concert on August 31, 2017, which raised over $250,000.

Mandisa, who is dedicated to helping Houston heal, said she plans to help through purchasing of gift cards. “Not only do I feel a strong desire to help my brothers and sisters in Christ, but since we’re more beautiful when we come together, I believe that we can be ‘The One He Speaks Through’ to pull others ‘Out of the Dark’ as we let our lights shine.”  Danny Gokey said of the Harvey devastation, “We know things have been tough out there in Houston, but I really do believe that this is a comeback season for you guys […] we’re going to come down there and we are going to do ministry […] and we want to help encourage you.”
