Happy Juneteenth Day!
On June 17, 2021, President Joseph Biden signed a bill to commemorate Juneteenth and officially marked this historical moment in history as a federal holiday.
Adults may not know the implications of why June 19 is celebrated in Texas or understand the depth of why we’re honoring this date across the country. Creating the dialogue for adults and youth to learn American history enables us to view the past, comprehend the present, and prepare for the future.
For a simple family activity for people of all ages to share, I recommend viewing the story “Juneteenth for Mazie,” a picture book written by African American author Floyd Cooper.
