Black Is King Reigns Supreme

As an African American in today’s society, if you ever need a reminder that your historic skin and culture is full of affluence, BLACK IS KING visually captivates this narrative with a profound emphasis. BLACK IS KING, a film by Beyoncé is absolutely breathtaking.

The one word that comes to mind while watching this masterpiece production is luxurious because I feel as if I’m living among royalty. And let’s be honest, as a Black woman this notion is typically considered a fantasy. So, bravo Beyonce’ for making me feel like a queen at that moment.

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is shining with a new effervescence of growth as she elevates her mastery in film production and storytelling. All involved, from the costume designer to the production assistant, deserve a round of applause for their work in this project.

As an extension to the Walt Disney live-action 2019 remake of The Lion King, Beyoncé released The Lion King: The Gift, an album project written as an ode of gratitude to Africa. The visuals and music collectively tell a story that correlates between Simba’s struggle to become King, and the battle little Black boys will initially face to thrive within a world designed to dull their worth.

Little Black girls shall see themselves and reflect on the character Nala as a reminder that the melanin within their skin makes their spirit and hue priceless. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is using her gift and platform on Disney+ to powerfully impact children across the world.

Teenagers and adults are also provided lessons on the consequences of choosing between darkness and light. The juxtaposition of a Black Simba taking an innocent ride with a friend in a suave pimped-out hearse is eye-catching. And the Chrysler with butterfly doors is so reminiscent of how things can be changed to fit its environment while appearing cool to our pleasures in life.

Richness once again fills my heart as I ponder on the magnificent costuming and endless streams of shiny things floating across my Disney+ television screen. If a genie popped up and granted me one garment wish, the leopard print pantsuit and cape with blinged-out glasses is the hot pick for me.

Overall, I just want to say thank you, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, for being the visionary we needed in such a time as this. BLACK IS KING is streaming now on Disney+, and it is a must-see film.
