Entertainment In the Pot Movies

FILM REVIEW: DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD

If you’re thinking DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD is just another kids movie, you will be pleasantly surprised. The animated television character we’ve all grown to love over the years is growing up, and her transition from a little lad to high school is executed beautifully.

The entire crew is back and Boots (the monkey) is the absolute cutest animal that will touch your heart. Swiper the Fox is still no good and Backpack is always there to lend a helping hand of resources. Dora’s parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) bring a lighthearted comedy that had several of us laughing hysterically.

Adults will appreciate the humor and identify with watching our kids or family members go through the changes of life. A generation of kids will experience the joy of witnessing a character that has profoundly impacted their lives, tell their story from a sincere perspective. The educational aspect in which Dora, portrayed by Isabela Moner, is most known for is also interwoven nicely with an entertainment appeal.

During the film three major points of emphasis stuck out to me and will definitely encourage young viewers:

1.) BE YOURSELF

Dora’s true spirit and joy reign supreme in a precise storytelling method. Her bubbly personality always shines through and the live-action concept of the film doesn’t dilute this important character feature. There are moments when Dora questions herself on whether or not she can handle the transition to city life. The sweet conversation Dora has with her Abuela is touching and showcases the power of acceptance.

2.) DOING WHAT’S RIGHT VERSUS DOING WRONG

The idea of always being presented with a choice to accept or reject temptation in a world filled with peer pressure, is a vital talking point presented in the film. The explorers vs. treasure hunters explanation remind us that someone is always watching you when least expected. We all have the power to make the best decisions for our lives when we have family and friends around that support us.

3.) KNOWLEDGE IS POWER AND BEING SMART IS COOL

Paying attention to the knowledge that is presented in school can help you in so many ways. Learning math, science, and history will seem irrelevant at times but you never know when a real-world application moment will occur. Dora, Cousin Diego, and friends all learn quickly the value of being smart and using their brains in a powerful way that eventually saves their lives on numerous occasions.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the film and there are a few surprises that made my jaw drop and heart fill with glee. DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD is now available in theaters.

ABOUT THE FILM

Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.
