My Cause, My Cleats Campaign

With only a handful of games left in the regular season, the significance of Week 13 is sure to bring awareness and a heartfelt presence on the field. The My Cause, My Cleats campaign will honor causes that more than 500 players personally selected to represent via their football cleats. Players who chose to participate in this initiative had the opportunity to work with Nike, Under Armour and Adidas to design custom footwear. The New York Giants and Houston Texans worked with an independent designer to customize their cleats.

You often hear stories of how a player is fined for wearing unapproved designer cleats. This campaign is a brilliant idea that will allow players to express themselves in a creative manner, while also helping to shine a huge light on others who may not get the recognition they truly deserve.

The Players’ Tribune, founded by Derek Jeter, is a media website that collaborated with players to help them tell their unique stories and the meaning behind their causes. “One of the great NFL traditions is how our players passionately support important causes in their communities and around the globe every year,” said NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL. “They are incredibly creative by nature so we are not surprised how they are seizing the opportunity this week with inspiring expressions of their charitable commitments on their cleats, online and through social media.”

In addition, players will have the opportunity to raise funds for the cause of their choosing by auctioning their cleats off at NFL Auction; 100% of funds raised will be donated to charities selected by players—all designated charities must have 501c3 status.
