R.I.P Hip-Hop Pioneer Biz Markie

Glitter&Gumbo would like to send our love and condolences to the family, friends, and fans of the legendary hip-hop icon DJ/Rapper/Producer/&More, Marcel “Biz Markie” Hall, who passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021, at 57-years-old.

The death of Biz Markie was confirmed via a statement from his rep Jenni Izumi and close friend Leland Robinson via IG.

I first became a fan of Biz Markie when he introduced his 1986 album MAKE THE MUSIC WITH YOUR MOUTH, BIZ, and the song with the same title captivated my eardrums with its melodic mix of hip-hop and beatboxing skills uniquely tied to a creative being. Another 1989 fan-favorite song, “Just A Friend,” struck hip-hop enthusiasts with its catchy phrase, “Oh baby you, you got what I need,” had us all belting at the top of our lungs with emphasis to match the energy of Biz every time.

Although Biz is gone from earth, we will never forget the historic imprint he placed upon the evolution of hip-hop. Rest In Peace.
