The Photograph: Moments That Stood Out

THE PHOTOGRAPH starring Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield opened in theaters nationwide on February 14, 2020. Overall, I enjoyed the film and shed a thug tear based off of the storyline message the characters portrayed.

Contrary to popular belief, this movie is more than a love story and can be viewed by couples, your gal pals, or singles looking for a cinema excursion.

Here are a few moments that stood out to me:

This opening line from the character Christina Eames, sheds light on why love is so obscure for many. Sometimes parents are doing the best they can at a level they’re most proficient.

I won’t say the film is slow however, at times throughout this historical journey you will experience pockets of silence. This opportunity will allow you time to reflect on the scenery, music, and nonverbal communication being shared among characters past and present. I appreciated this aspect.

For all my hair connoisseurs, Issa Rae’s stylist did a phenomenal job celebrating her hair effortlessly. The scene in which Mae wore a beautiful canary dress, created the perfect backdrop for celebrating a black woman’s hair. This ponytail slay gave me pause, and I’m gagging to know which gel or edge control she used to create this look. In my opinion, this hair is EVERYTHING!

As a believer in not telling the story and allowing viewers to form their own opinion, I encourage you to support the film and determine what moments speak to you as well.
